Dear Mr Larsen,
Dear Mr Larsen,
I hope you are well. I am writing to ask whether it would be possible to change my working schedule for the next six months, beginning in March. I would like to explain my reasons and suggest a solution that, I believe, would work for the team as well as for me.

As you may know, I have started a part-time evening course in data analysis, which I think will be useful for my work in the department. The classes take place on Tuesday and Thursday from five to eight o’clock, and the school is on the other side of the city. At the moment, I finish work at half past five, so I arrive late for the first hour, and I miss some of the material. I have tried to solve this by leaving early, but I don’t want to take time from the team without agreeing it with you first.

My suggestion is simple. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I would begin at seven in the morning and leave at three, which would give me enough time to reach the school. On the other three days I would work my normal hours, and I could stay half an hour longer to make up for any missing time. This way I would still complete forty hours a week, and I would be available during the busiest periods, which, from my experience, are Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

I have already spoken to Kate and Ravi, who handle most of the customer calls in the early afternoon. They said they are happy to cover for me, and they added that an early start would actually help, because I could answer the messages that arrive overnight before the office gets busy.

Of course, I understand that this may not be suitable for every situation, and I would be glad to discuss any concerns you have. If you prefer, we could try the new schedule for one month and review it together afterwards. I am also willing to share what I learn in the course with the rest of the department, for example by preparing a short presentation in June.

Thank you for considering my request. I would be grateful for your reply by the end of next week, as the course registration closes on the twentieth.
