Hi Maria,
Hi Maria,
I’m so glad you decided to share the flat with me. I thought I should write before you arrive on Friday, so that you know what to expect. I hope this email isn’t too long!

First, about the flat. It’s on the third floor, and unfortunately there is no lift, so you will have to carry your bags up the stairs. Your room is the one with the big window. The bed and the desk are already there, but you will need to bring your own lamp. The kitchen is small, but it has everything we need. We usually share the basic things, like salt, oil and tea, and we buy them in turn.

Second, some small rules. Most of them are very easy. We clean the bathroom once a week, and we take turns. Please don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight. Our neighbour downstairs works early in the morning, so we try to be quiet after ten o’clock. If you have friends visiting, that’s no problem, but please tell me first.

Third, the neighbourhood. It’s a lovely area. There is a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the vegetables are fresh and cheap. The bus stop is two minutes away, and the university is only twenty minutes by bus. If you like running, there is a park near the river. I go there most mornings, and you are welcome to join me.

I’ll be at home on Friday afternoon, so I can give you the keys and show you around. Then, if you aren’t too tired, we could cook dinner together and get to know each other better.

Let me know what time your train arrives, and I’ll meet you at the station if you like.
